Bridge Grounds Maintenance Worker

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain grounds at plaza and surrounding approaches, including grass cutting, weed eating, edging, etc. with the use of various hand and power tools and operation of riding and push type lawn mowers
- Maintain bedding plants and lawns with the use of herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers
- Replace bedding plants seasonally
- Collect trash and debris on the bridge and surrounding approaches
- Pick up and make deliveries
- Make minor repairs on bridge
- Operate sprinkler system for irrigation of grounds and foliage
- Perform janitorial services
- Carry out related tasks as directed by supervisors

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee is a Causeway First Responder. The employee is required to monitor the Causeway radio and be available for 24 hour call, 7 days a week to handle any problems that may arise due to bridge closings, accidents, equipment failures, fog, hurricanes and other weather related issues. The employee is issued a company cell phone for work use only and must respond to calls or emergency messages. The employee must have the ability to complete a training regimen in the operation of specially outfitted GNOEC vehicles equipped with lights, radios, fire extinguishers, life rings, rope ladders, first aid kits, specialized tools, rescue and special equipment to assist motorist, provide safe travel across the Causeway and Huey P. Long bridges and reduce response time in reaching a motorist in distress.
The employee must be willing and able to work weekends, holidays, and hours other than on regular shifts and in all types of weather. The employee must have the ability to complete an initial on-the-job training program and six-month probationary period; and to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check. The employee must possess a valid Louisiana State chauffeur or commercial driver’s license and be able to operate a variety of vehicles, such as an automobile, truck, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work is performed for sustained periods outdoors in conditions that may include extreme temperatures, heavy rain or humidity, fog or other catastrophic weather. Work exposes member to possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, machinery and/or moving vehicles. Motorist Assistance Patrol Operator
Schedule: At least 80 hours per pay period. However, could be asked to work additional hours.
Shift: Placed on either of two shifts. Twelve hour shifts – Twelve hours on two consecutive days, followed by two days off. Off every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Rotating days and nights every two weeks. Eight hour shifts – Monday through Friday.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates a specially equipped vehicle on Causeway and/or Huey P. Long bridge(s) and provides roadside assistance with routine maintenance and service on vehicles and information to motorists
- Utilizes a boom/lift to assist in water rescue procedures
- Patrols assigned areas of Causeway and/or Huey P. Long bridge(s) to locate and assist stranded motorists and eliminate road hazards
- Assists officers and/or other agencies, as necessary
- Diagnoses minor automotive problems and provides limited assistance with emergency repairs, such as changing tires, providing water for cooling system, etc., in order to assist motorists with disabled vehicles
- Responds to calls of questionable situations on the bridge(s) in order to determine the specific nature of the situation and react appropriately by providing assistance, requesting additional help, etc.
- Directs traffic at accident scenes and on special details in order to assist officers with field operations, using various emergency signals or equipment
- Maintains assigned vehicle to ensure safety and reliability by following scheduled maintenance routine and utilizing services of vehicle maintenance department
- Requests tow truck service for motorists with disabled vehicles
- Assists maintenance with removal of debris from highway by pushing, pulling, lifting or moving objects
- Transports mail, supplies, records, reports, and other articles to various locations in order to ensure safe and prompt delivery of required items
- Records information related to incidents or events on bridges
- Communicates with motorists in order to provide directions and answer questions
- Administers emergency first aid to motorists, using basic first aid training and equipment (e.g., bandages, splints, etc.), in accordance with standard first aid procedures
- Testifies in court regarding situations encountered on the highway, using appropriate written records and files, in accordance with court procedures

Police Officer
The Full-Time Police Officer is responsible for a variety of tasks required in the operation of the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission (GNOEC) Police Department including, but not limited to, general police responsibilities necessary to provide for the safety and good order of the community in accordance with Department Regulations and state law. In general, an Officer will identify criminal offenders and criminal activity and, where appropriate, apprehend offenders; reduce the opportunities for the commission of crime and traffic violations through preventive patrol and other measures; facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic; and provide other emergency services.
Employment Status: Regular Full-Time
Schedule: At least 80 hours per payroll period. However, could be asked to work additional hours.
Shift: If stationed on Causeway Bridge: Twelve hours on two consecutive days, followed by two days off. Off every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Rotating days and nights every two weeks.

Toll Collector
Schedule: Hours vary weekly. Part-Time hours are budgeted at 27 hours weekly. May be required to work additional hours.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Collect monies and make change
- Assess tolls when the system malfunctions
- Account for monies received on paperwork and make deposits. (If toll collector is short any funds, the shortage is withheld from their paycheck.)
- Input data into Tolling Equipment on a daily basis
- Respond to emergency situations occurring in the operation of a toll booth
- Assist in moving traffic through the toll lanes
- Keep toll equipment clear of obstacles to avoid misreads of toll fares.
- Operate a two-way radio and telephone communication station in toll booth to summon law enforcement officers or supervisory assistance and to receive instructions
- Maintain traffic surveillance during traffic backups.
- Report accidents or incidents to proper authorities
- Prepare reports concerning incidents that occur during shift as required.

- Preserve all street lighting from Florida Street to the North Toll Plaza.
- Maintain all bridge lighting in the crossovers, old nine mile turnaround and the sixteen mile hump on the Causeway bridge
- Keep up all navigational lights at 4, 8, 16 and 20 mile humps
- Maintain lights at 8 and 16 mile humps of fender system
- Maintain a total of 11 electric gates at the North Toll Plaza and the drawbridge
- Performs all electrical maintenance at the drawbridge
- Maintain all lighting in high voltage buildings A through T
- Maintain all street lights and roadway lights at North and South Plaza
- Ensure lights on spare slabs at North Plaza and at the mouth of the Tchefuncte River are in proper working order
- Check and change air filters at North Plaza and Maintenance facility

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee is a Causeway First Responder. The employee is required to monitor the Causeway radio and be available for 24 hour call, 7 days a week to handle any problems that may arise due to bridge closings, accidents, equipment failures, fog, hurricanes and other weather related issues or equipment failures. The employee is issued a company cell phone for work use only and must respond to calls or emergency messages. The employee must have the ability to complete a training regimen in the operation of specially outfitted GNOEC vehicles equipped with lights, radios, fire extinguishers, life rings, rope ladders, first aid kits, specialized tools, rescue and special equipment to assist motorist, provide safe travel across the Causeway and Huey P. Long bridges and reduce response time in reaching a motorist in distress.
The employee must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and hours other than on regular shifts and in all types of weather. The employee must have the ability to attain certification and annual re-certification in CPR, AED, first aid, and water rescue training. The employee must have the ability to complete an initial on-the-job training program and six-month probationary period; and to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check. The employee must possess a valid Louisiana State driver’s license and be able to operate a variety of vehicles, such as an automobile, truck, etc.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. While performing the duties of this job, work is performed for sustained periods outdoors in conditions that may include extreme temperatures, heavy rain or humidity, fog or other catastrophic weather. Summary: Police Dispatchers are responsible for performing a variety of tasks required in the operation of the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission (“GNOEC”) police communications facility.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

• Receive and record incoming calls from officers, staff, and the public and assist in servicing the calls by gathering vital information and relaying that information to the appropriate individuals.
